The Dyson animal vacuum cleaner is specially designed to pick up animal hair without losing suction. It has a specialized tangle-free turbine tool to remove pet and human hair from floors, stairs and upholstery. Although Dyson vacuums come equipped with strong suction at the cleaning head, there can be a loss of suction due to clogs or dirty filters. When cleaning blockages, use caution in case there are glass particles.
Clean the Filters
Although Dyson only recommends regular filter cleaning every three months, the filters can become clogged with fine particles of dirt and dust through normal cleaning. As the filters plug up, a loss of performance may compromise the suction power of the unit. Wash the filters in cold water with no detergent and allow them to air-dry before putting them back into place.
Brush Bar Blockage
The brush bar can become blocked and cause a loss of suction. A severe blockage will trip the thermal fuse and shut down the vacuum cleaner altogether. Unplug the vacuum cleaner, carefully flip it over and examine the area of the brush bar. Clear any paper or other debris that may be caught here.
Wand and Airways
Blockages may occur in the wand and the airways. Check these areas by first unplugging the vacuum and inspecting the wand and airways. The wand is detachable and connects to the different cleaning accessories. Look through the wand to determine if it is plugged or clear. The airways lead to the filters and can be accessed by removing the filter cover. Check to make sure the airways are clear.
Cleaner Head Blockage

The cleaner head may have a debris blockage, and the only way to access the air passage is to remove the base plate. First, take off the cleaner head from the vacuum proper by removing a 'C' clip that holds it in place. Turn the top-mounted cleaner head dials one-quarter turn until they click, then place the cleaner head onto its back. Lift up the top edge of the base plate, rotate it into an upright position and lift it out. Check and clear any blockage in this area.
